On Thursday, 25 October 2012, the awarding of the "Scholarship of Škrabec's association" took place at the “Škrabčeva domačija" in Ribnica.

The French Minister of Culture and Communication, Mrs. Aurélie Filipetti, has visited our University at it’s Venice premises on the occasion of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of Venice.

In the 2012/2013 academic year, the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica will organise courses of English, Italian, German and Slovene.

Intensive scientific research activities take place at the University of Nova Gorica, which extend into European and wider areas. Recently, the University is successfully setting up cooperation with China’s rapidly growing industry and their research and educational institutions and agencies.

The researchers of the Laboratory for Organic Matter Physics, University of Nova Gorica Dr. Egon Pavlica and Prof. Dr. Gvido Bratina, together with colleagues from the University of Strasbourg, France, Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany and Stanford University, USA, have published an article in a prominent scientific journal Nature Chemistry on the June 24th.

The yeast Dekkera bruxellensis plays an important role in the production of wine, as it can have either a positive or a negative impact on the taste. Researchers at the University of Nova Gorica, among others, have mapped the yeast’s genome, giving wine producers the possibility to take control of the flavour development of the wine.

On Tuesday, 13 March 2012, the final ceremony of the "Gospodarstvenik Primorske za leto 2011" took place in Nova Gorica.

In response to the notice from the European Territorial Cooperation Programme of the Cross-border Cooperation Slovenia - Italy 2007-2013 the standard project Gotrawama - Cross-border system for water management in the urban area of Gorizia and Nova Gorica has been approved. The project includes, and combines, the expertise of ten research and educational institutions, local institutions and utility companies.

On Monday, 7 November, 2011, a second solemn awards ceremony of the National Institute of Biology was held at the Biological Centre on Večna pot 111 in Ljubljana. The awards are named after Prof. Dr. Miroslav Zei, who was among the founders of the Institute.

University of Nova Gorica linguists Prof. Dr. Artur Stepanov and Prof. Dr. Penka Stateva became part of a European linguistics research consortium which will prepare a position paper for the areas of theoretical and experimental linguistics within the context of EU work programs.

A colleague from the Laboratory for Environmental Research of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Ario de Marco, published a paper in »Cancer Cell« focused on the role of eIF6 in tumorogenesis.

In the 2011/2012 academic year the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica will organise courses of the English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Slovene languages.

The international post-graduate study programme in “Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage” is part of the Graduate School of the University of Nova Gorica.

The award ceremony took place on Wedneday, 6th July 2011, at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana.

On Thursday, 23 June 2011, the awarding of the "10th Trimo Research Awards 2011" took place in Ljubljana.

Dr. Robert Vertnik received for his PhD theses “Heat and fluid flow simulation of the continuous casting of steel by a meshless method”, supervised by Prof. dr. Božidar Šarler and defended at the University of Nova Gorica, a prestigeous award of the European organisation “European Committee for Computational Methods for Applied Sciences – ECCOMAS” as the best PhD theses in the ECCOMAS field in Central Europe in 2010, which encompass organisations in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

The "Rectors' Conference of the Alps-Adriatic universities - AARC" took place in Gorizia (Italy), from 13 to 14 May 2011. The University of Nova Gorica took part in the conference as its new member.

Tilen Komel and Jure Fabjan, third-year students of the Gimnazija Nova Gorica, in colaboration with the Laboratory for Environmental Research of the University of Nova Gorica and the Kmetijsko gozdarski zavod Nova Gorica prepared the project work about the fotodegradation of neonicotinoid inseticides.

Professor of molecular genetics at the University of Nova Gorica and in Lund University (Sweden), Prof. Dr. Jure Piškur, has just recently published with his colleagues from the yeast molecular genetics group at the Lund University (Sweden) and their Milan collaborators an article about wine yeasts and their evolution in prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications.

At the meeting held on 17 March, 2011, the Council of Slovenian quality assurance agency for higher education confirmed the founding of the Shool of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica.
