University of Nova Gorica linguists Prof. Dr. Artur Stepanov and Prof. Dr. Penka Stateva became part of a European linguistics research consortium which will prepare a position paper for the areas of theoretical and experimental linguistics within the context of EU work programs.

A colleague from the Laboratory for Environmental Research of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Ario de Marco, published a paper in »Cancer Cell« focused on the role of eIF6 in tumorogenesis.

In the 2011/2012 academic year the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica will organise courses of the English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Slovene languages.

The international post-graduate study programme in “Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage” is part of the Graduate School of the University of Nova Gorica.

On Thursday, 23 June 2011, the awarding of the "10th Trimo Research Awards 2011" took place in Ljubljana.

Dr. Robert Vertnik received for his PhD theses “Heat and fluid flow simulation of the continuous casting of steel by a meshless method”, supervised by Prof. dr. Božidar Šarler and defended at the University of Nova Gorica, a prestigeous award of the European organisation “European Committee for Computational Methods for Applied Sciences – ECCOMAS” as the best PhD theses in the ECCOMAS field in Central Europe in 2010, which encompass organisations in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

The "Rectors' Conference of the Alps-Adriatic universities - AARC" took place in Gorizia (Italy), from 13 to 14 May 2011. The University of Nova Gorica took part in the conference as its new member.

Tilen Komel and Jure Fabjan, third-year students of the Gimnazija Nova Gorica, in colaboration with the Laboratory for Environmental Research of the University of Nova Gorica and the Kmetijsko gozdarski zavod Nova Gorica prepared the project work about the fotodegradation of neonicotinoid inseticides.

Professor of molecular genetics at the University of Nova Gorica and in Lund University (Sweden), Prof. Dr. Jure Piškur, has just recently published with his colleagues from the yeast molecular genetics group at the Lund University (Sweden) and their Milan collaborators an article about wine yeasts and their evolution in prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications.

At the meeting held on 17 March, 2011, the Council of Slovenian quality assurance agency for higher education confirmed the founding of the Shool of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica.

Director of the graduate study program Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology of the Graduate school and a member of the Laboratory for environmental science at the University of Nova Gorica, Doc. Dr. Elsa Fabbretti participate in a research project whose main objective is to study the molecular mechanisms in sensory neurons leading to migraine in patients, why these neurons become hyperactive, and how we could stop their signaling in chronic pain conditions.

The Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education at its meeting on 17 March 2006, confirmed the application of Nova Gorica Polytechnic for a change of status to university, thus enabling the creation of a fourth Slovene university - University of Nova Gorica.

On Tuesday, 15 March 2011, the final ceremony of the "Gospodarstvenik Primorske za leto 2010" took place in Nova Gorica.

The School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica and Gem Public Multimedia are launching the second edition if Videorajd, a video competition, directed to young emerging creatives.

Prof. Dr. Oto Luthar, the director of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Arts (ZRC SAZU) and profesor of the School of Humanities at the University of Nova Gorica, was conferred the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art for his contribution to mutual understanding and to the improvement of relations between Slovenia and Austria.

Recent alumni Urška Djukić and Polona Zupan (Pila Rusjan) as well as student Miha Šubic are among the nominees for the Essl Art Award.

The University of Nova Gorica Award for best European student animation film on 7th International Animated Film Festival - Animateka went to authors Jasmiini Ottelin, Pinja Partanen in Elli Vuorinen from Turku Arts Academy for their movie Benigni, which is, as the student jury explained, "an intimate drama about loneliness, out of which an unusual and tragical relationship appears."

At the meeeting held on November 11-12, 2010 in Triest, the Governing Board of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), confirmed the founding of its branch in Nova Gorica.

University of Nova Gorica is part of the Consortium Committee that received Grant for the Erasmus Mundus Study Programme European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations. Cooperation between European and African institutions to teach and study migration begins in 2011.
