Published paper in the Nature magazine establishes the key role of the University of Nova Gorica in the area of organic electronics
The researchers of the Laboratory for Organic Matter Physics, University of Nova Gorica Dr. Egon Pavlica and Prof. Dr. Gvido Bratina, together with colleagues from the University of Strasbourg, France, Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany and Stanford University, USA, have published an article in a prominent scientific journal Nature Chemistry on the June 24th.

Completing of the first “Slovenian” genome sequence will produce better wine
The yeast Dekkera bruxellensis plays an important role in the production of wine, as it can have either a positive or a negative impact on the taste. Researchers at the University of Nova Gorica, among others, have mapped the yeast’s genome, giving wine producers the possibility to take control of the flavour development of the wine.

University of Nova Gorica leading partner in cross-border project Gotrawama
In response to the notice from the European Territorial Cooperation Programme of the Cross-border Cooperation Slovenia - Italy 2007-2013 the standard project Gotrawama - Cross-border system for water management in the urban area of Gorizia and Nova Gorica has been approved. The project includes, and combines, the expertise of ten research and educational institutions, local institutions and utility companies.

On Monday, 7 November, 2011, a second solemn awards ceremony of the National Institute of Biology was held at the Biological Centre on Večna pot 111 in Ljubljana. The awards are named after Prof. Dr. Miroslav Zei, who was among the founders of the Institute.

ECCOMAS award
Dr. Robert Vertnik received for his PhD theses “Heat and fluid flow simulation of the continuous casting of steel by a meshless method”, supervised by Prof. dr. Božidar Šarler and defended at the University of Nova Gorica, a prestigeous award of the European organisation “European Committee for Computational Methods for Applied Sciences – ECCOMAS” as the best PhD theses in the ECCOMAS field in Central Europe in 2010, which encompass organisations in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

Professor of molecular genetics at the University of Nova Gorica and in Lund University about wine yeasts that can reveal prehistoric microbial world
Professor of molecular genetics at the University of Nova Gorica and in Lund University (Sweden), Prof. Dr. Jure Piškur, has just recently published with his colleagues from the yeast molecular genetics group at the Lund University (Sweden) and their Milan collaborators an article about wine yeasts and their evolution in prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications.
