The new film directed by Rajko Grlić, professor at the School of Arts, Just between us, so far won 16 national and international festival awards, including seven gold arenas at this year's Croatian Film Festival in Pula.

The School of Arts of University of Nova Gorica and Gem Public Multimedia are launching a new video competition, directed to young emerging creatives.

In the 2010/2011 academic year the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica will organise courses of the English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Slovene languages.

»Solbiopolysy« is an innovative project, co-funded from the European community through the 6th framework programme. Six partners from four European countries (Slovenia, Greece, Portugal and Italy) participate in the consortium. Solbiopolysy seeks to advance the development of innovative and readily applicable technologies, based on the integration of landfill gas and solar energy, for the generation of electricity and, eventually, heating and cooling systems. The Solbiopolysy technology will be tested in a pilot plant located in Slovenia.

Under the slogan Educating community creating connections the School of Arts of University of Nova Gorica presents a new online platform of education, art and culture. The public platform joins into a community creatives of diverse fields of the arts and creative industries; photography, videofilm and animation as also new media.

Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko, from the University of Nova Gorica in co-authorship with prof. dr. Chieu D. Tran from Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI, USA) have contributed a chapter on „Thermal Lens Spectroscopy” to the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc..

The eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano on the 15 April 2010 and the subsequent spreading of volcanic ash caused considerable difficulties for air traffic over Europe. The air space has reopened, however, for scientists questions still remain: the exact altitude and trajectory of the ash cloud; the distribution of ash deposited on the ground; possible long-term effects on weather and climate.

The President of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, has recently signed an agreement on mutual collaboration in the fields of education and scientific research with the President of the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Prof. Dr. Jean Kouldiati, and the President of the University of Koudougou (Burkina Faso), Prof. Dr. Bila Gerard Segdav.

On Tuesday, 9 March 2010, the final ceremony of the "Gospodarstvenik Primorske za leto 2009" took place in Nova Gorica.

A colleague of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Iztok Arčon, reported in a recently published article in a scientific review Environmental Pollution, with his colleagues from Agricultural Research Council-Research Group on Soil–Plant Systems, Gorizia, Italy (L. Leita, A. Margon, A. Pastrello, D. Mosetti) and from University of Udine (M. Contin), about the fate of ecotoxic hexavalent chromium in the environment.

The Town Council of the Municipality of Nova Gorica adopted a decision in May 2009, with which it allocated a lot for the needs of constructing a campus of the University of Nova Gorica. In the autumn of 2009, we have signed a letter of intent with the Municipality of Nova Gorica for the construction of a 16-hectare university campus, along the Korn stream in Nova Gorica.

On Friday, 20 November 2009, the awarding of the "ECLAS Lifetime Achievement Award" took place in Ljubljana. ECLAS (European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools) exists to foster and develop scholarship in landscape architecture.

Last week, the new European COST Action “Women Writers in History” was launched in Brussels. The first meeting of the Management Committee, with members representing the fifteen European countries involved as yet in this collaborative network, was held at the COST office in Brussels.
