When quality, not only the number of students, counts. The latest international Round University Ranking system (RUR) considers the University of Nova Gorica best university in Slovenia and ranks it among the leading world universities.

Today’s courtesy call at the University of Nova Gorica was centred around the visit of Japanese Ambassador, his Excellency Keijita Fekudo and Mr. Yoshiaki Makino, the Head of the Department for economy and political matters.

At yesterday’s award ceremony titled Generations the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts – ZRC SAZU - gave away awards for scientific achievements in the field social studies and humanities in 2015.

On Wednesday, 20 April 2016, the ceremony in the honour of promotion of new European Talent Points took place at the Centre for Research and Promotion of Giftedness – CRSN, Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana.

The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) has been a part of the global university ranking program called »U-Multirank« since the very beginning of this European project. This year’s results of the comparative rankings of different universities from all over the world (»U-Multirank 2016«), published on the website www.umultirank.org, show that UNG’s results are high above average, within the global university chart (Same exceptional results were obtained by UNG also in the last year’s »U-Multirank 2015« comparisons of universities.).

Today, the University of Nova Gorica hosted the President of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Prof. Dr. Jörg Steinbach. He was accompanied by the German Ambassador in Slovenia, her Excellency Dr. Anna Elisabeth Prinz.

On Thursday, 31 March, 2016, President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, awarded a special order of merit to a group of Slovene scientists at a ceremony in the Presidential palace. These are scientists who are part of the Atlas experiment at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics CERN in Switzerland. They received the award for their top achievements in the fields of experimental particle physics and technological development as well as for their contribution to the recognizability of Slovene science in the international sphere.

The University of Nova Gorica is the first higher education institution in Slovenia to have joined the initiative European Universities for an Open World, launched by the European University Association.

At the Gourmand Best in the World Competition, the book “Burek: A Culinary Metaphor,” which is a revised version of Dr. Jernej Mlekuž’s dissertation, was chosen as the winning Slovene book and became one of the finalists in the Best Food Writing Book category.

On Saturday, February 20, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica prof. dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the Vice-rector for Research and Arts prof. dr. Gvido Bratina welcomed the delegation from the Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center from the Start City, near Moscow at the University of Nova Gorica’s venue at the Lanthieri Mansion.

On Thursday, 18 February, 2016, the graduation ceremony for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students of the University of Nova Gorica was held at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

As part of the Slovene Science Foundation gala ceremony called ‘Thanksgiving Day’ that took place in Prešeren’s hall of the Slovene Academy of Arts and Sciences, Dr Edvard Kobal gave the “The Prometheus of Science for Excellence in Communication” award to the Scientific Evenings hosted by the University of Nova Gorica. This award marks the first decade of successful fulfillment of the University’s mission to share scientific discoveries and findings with various publics.

Springer Publishing House’s series Advances in Industrial Control just published a scientific monograph by Prof. Dr. Juš Kocijan, titled Modeling and Control of Dynamic Systems Using Gaussian Process Models.

In November, Springer Publishing House published Dr. Marjan Temovski’s dissertation in its Springer Theses book series, because they recognized its exceptional qualities.
