At a formal celebration ceremony at the Grand Hotel Union, the Zois award, the Zois recognition awards and the Puh recognition awards were being given to select individuals on Thursday, 23 November, 2017.

At the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics that took place between November 12 and 20, 2017 in Thailand, an 18-year old student of the University of Nova Gorica’s bachelor’s program in Physics and Astrophysics (at the School of Science), Aleksej Jurca, won.

This year’s chief award of the Salon 2017, an event organized by the Slovene Fine Arts Associations (ZDSLU), went to Prof. Dr. Aleš Vaupotič from the University of Nova Gorica and Prof. Dr. Narvika Bovcon from the University of Ljubljana. They received the award for their project “3D Visualization of Data on Female Writers: Quote, Fabric, Lake, Female Writers”.

The scientists of the LIGO and Virgo collaborations and around 70 observatories around the world, including Slovene researchers, published an important finding in the field of gravitational waves.

On 13 October, the University of Nova Gorica, the Scientific Research Center of the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (its Research Station in Nova Gorica), and the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language at the ZRC SAZU organized one-day scientific conference called Škrabčevi dnevi 10.

The main event at the opening of the 23th academic year took place on Thursday, 12 October at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

Today, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Slovenia, H. E. Mr Dimitar Abadjiev visited the University of Nova Gorica. He was accompanied by his advisor Ms. Julia Tzerova.

Today (22 September 2017) the scientists of the international Pierre Auger Collaboration published their research findings showing that cosmic particles with a million times higher energies than the energy of proton in the large hadron collider originate outside of our galaxy. The results were published in the prestigious scientific journal Science. The research team included Slovene researchers from the University of Nova Gorica and the Jožef Stefan Institute.

On 16 September, two faculty members of the UNG’s School of Arts were once again awarded at the 20th Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož.

On Friday, 15 September, the University of Nova Gorica and the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University signed a cooperation agreement that concerns joint mentorship for doctoral students and double doctoral degrees.

The Scientific Council for Medicine at the Slovene Research Agency (ARRS) included an achievement of the UNG faculty members, explained in the article “Bilirubin is an Endogenous Antioxidant in Human Vascular Endothelial Cells”, in the Excellent in Science 2017 event.

On Sunday, 17 September, 2017, the Women’s U23 World Championship in volleyball took place in the Stožice hall in Ljubljana. The Slovene team, led by a student at the University of Nova Gorica’s School of Humanities, Eva Mori, achieved an immense success – U23 World Championship silver medal.

The University of Nova Gorica and the University Iuav of Venice have established the double doctoral degree in the postgraduate study program Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage , third level.

The letter “Optimized frequency dependent photothermal beam deflection spectroscopy”, published by the co-workers of Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Dorota Korte and Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko with co-authors in Laser Physics Letters, was chosen by the publisher in his Editorial "Highlights of 2016", as one of the three contributions with most impact in the field of Laser spectroscopy.

The project proposal was granted co-financing in the framework of the call for proposals of INTERREG V-A Slovenija-Avstrija programme. The lead partner is University of Nova Gorica. Partners of the project are also Primorski tehnološki park, d. o. o., Kemijski inštitut, Technische Universtät Graz, Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH, Montanuniversität Leoben in CTR Carinthian Tech Research AG.

On Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 the Pregl Ward for outstanding achievements in the field of basic and applicative research in the field of chemistry and related fields was given at the National Institute of Chemistry.

On today’s national holiday, namely the Primož Trubar Day, the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor gave the “Apple of Inspiration” award to Prof. Dr. Kozma Ahačič in the presidential palace. Prof. Dr. Ahačič was awarded for his creative work and introduction of new methods in Slovene grammar and literature.

On Thursday, 1 June, 2017, the graduation ceremony for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students of the University of Nova Gorica was held at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

Following the invitation of the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, His Excellency Mr Mykhailo F. Brodovych, the Ambassador of the Ukraine in Slovenia visited the University of Nova Gorica today.

On 31 May, the Head of the National Institute of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Gregor Anderluh, together with his two colleagues, Prof. Dr. Nataša Zabukovec Logar and Prof. Dr. Robert Dominko, visited the University of Nova Gorica.
