PROF. DR. STOJAN PLESNIČAR (1925 - 2019)

Prof. Dr. Peter Purg, a faculty member of the University of Nova Gorica’s School of Arts became the new president of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (NAKVIS) Council.

According to the results of the international Round University Ranking system, performing evaluations and rankings of leading world universities, the University of Nova Gorica found itself at an exceptionally high place, namely the 140th place, which is the best result so far. It also reached really high rankings in the previous years: in 2018, it was listed as the 353rd, in 2017, it was placed at the 186th spot, and in 2016 at the 203rd place. Among the latter the most highly esteemed U.S. and British universities prevail, such as the California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Harvard University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge etc.

Today, the University of Nova Gorica hosted the Austrian Ambassador to Slovenia, Her Excellency, Sigrid Berka, who was visiting the Nova Gorica Municipality. Apart from the Ambassador, the Head of the Austrian Cultural Forum, Andreas Pawlitschek, also took part in the courtesy visit.

Yesterday, Matevž Rupnik, a student at the School of Science of the University of Nova Gorica took 4th place in Alpine Combined at the Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk.

Today, the opening of the exhibition “JAN PALACH 69” took place at the University of Nova Gorica’s venue in Vipava, the Lanthieri Mansion.

During a special ceremony at the presidential palace, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor awarded the “Apple of Inspiration” award to two faculty members at the University of Nova Gorica, Dr. Tanja Petrushevska and Doc. Dr. Gabrijela Zaharijaš.

Hanna Budasheva, a student at the Graduate school and a collaborator at the Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences of the University of Nova Gorica took first place at the “Winter College on Applications of Optics and Photonics in Food Science" Winter School for her poster presentation titled “Determination of iron in natural waters using DGT technique coupled to phototermal beam deflection spectroscopy”.

Recently, two long-time faculty members at the School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, Dušan Kastelic and Igor Prassel have been given awards for their work.

A list of ten articles published by the faculty members of the University of Nova Gorica in journals with the highest Impact factor.

The signature of the agreement between the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO) on December 19, 2018, in Santiago de Chile, eliminated the last formal obstacle to the construction of the South CTA observatory in the Chilean Atacama desert.

Today, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica (UNG), Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the President of the Primorje football club (ND Primorje), Bojan Adžić, signed an agreement on a long-term business collaboration.

Today, the University of Nova Gorica got a visit from Japanese Ambassador to Slovenia, his Excellency, Masaharu Yoshida. Apart from the Ambassador, Yoshiaki Makino, the Head of the Department of the Economic and Political matters accompanied the Ambassador during this visit.

On Wednesday, 5 December and on Thursday, 6 December, 2018, the graduation ceremony for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students of the University of Nova Gorica was held at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

Tarik Žigon, who successfully completed his studies at the School of Engineering and Management (at the University of Nova Gorica) is a newly elected mayor of the Renče-Vogrsko municipality.

In a research, performed by the Fermi LAT collaboration, with participation from Dr. Gabrijela Zaharijas, from the Centre for Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Nova Gorica, scientists used gamma rays to measure the total amount of starlight produced over the last 90% of the Universes history (last 12 billion years).

In the Linhart Hall of the Cankar Cogress Center in Ljubljana, these awards were given out on November 27, 2018: the Zois award for life achievements, the Puh award for life achievements, the Zois award for outstanding achievements, the Puh award for outstanding achievements, the Zois award for important achievements, the Puh award for introducing new scientific results into the economic and social practice, and the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate.

A student at the School of Arts Irena Gatej received an award for the best students film for her film “Driving. Poem for my father” at the "Cinedays Festival of European Film " in Skopje, Macedonia.

Today, the University of Nova Gorica received a visit by the Minister for Economic Development of the Guernsey island, Deputy Charles Parkinson.

Recently, Prof. Dr. Petra Svoljšak, the Head of the Cultural History study program at the School of Humanities (University of Nova Gorica) and the Head of the Milko Kos Historical Institute at ZRC SAZU received the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.
