Ten years after the first edition, the world-renowned Oxford University Press published the second edition of the scientific monograph of the associate of the University of Nova Gorica, and the Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU from Postojna, Prof. Dr. Tanja Pipan, The Biology of Caves and Other Subterranean Habitats (Biologija jam in drugih podzemeljskih habitatov).

The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) and UNESCO’s department of Open Technologies for Open Educational Resources and Open Learning at the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) co-created and now for the second year in a row also coordinate an international mentor program, called Open Education for a Better World (OE4BW).

Nina Gramc, concluded the Agreement based on which the University of Nova Gorica sold the patent rights for the method for "solid-state grid energy storage" invention to Institute CES, inštitut znanosti in tehnologije, d.o.o..

Prof. Dr. Peter Purg, a faculty member of the University of Nova Gorica’s School of Arts became the new president of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (NAKVIS) Council.

According to the results of the international Round University Ranking system, performing evaluations and rankings of leading world universities, the University of Nova Gorica found itself at an exceptionally high place, namely the 140th place, which is the best result so far. It also reached really high rankings in the previous years: in 2018, it was listed as the 353rd, in 2017, it was placed at the 186th spot, and in 2016 at the 203rd place. Among the latter the most highly esteemed U.S. and British universities prevail, such as the California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Harvard University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge etc.

Today, the University of Nova Gorica hosted the Austrian Ambassador to Slovenia, Her Excellency, Sigrid Berka, who was visiting the Nova Gorica Municipality. Apart from the Ambassador, the Head of the Austrian Cultural Forum, Andreas Pawlitschek, also took part in the courtesy visit.

Yesterday, Matevž Rupnik, a student at the School of Science of the University of Nova Gorica took 4th place in Alpine Combined at the Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk.

Today, the opening of the exhibition “JAN PALACH 69” took place at the University of Nova Gorica’s venue in Vipava, the Lanthieri Mansion.

During a special ceremony at the presidential palace, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor awarded the “Apple of Inspiration” award to two faculty members at the University of Nova Gorica, Dr. Tanja Petrushevska and Doc. Dr. Gabrijela Zaharijaš.

Hanna Budasheva, a student at the Graduate school and a collaborator at the Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences of the University of Nova Gorica took first place at the “Winter College on Applications of Optics and Photonics in Food Science" Winter School for her poster presentation titled “Determination of iron in natural waters using DGT technique coupled to phototermal beam deflection spectroscopy”.

Recently, two long-time faculty members at the School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, Dušan Kastelic and Igor Prassel have been given awards for their work.
