On Thursday, 15 October, 2015 at the solemn academy ceremony marking the twentieth anniversary of the University of Nova Gorica, the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor bestowed the Order for Merits upon the University of Nova Gorica for its remarkably successful development and its achievements enriching the Slovenian higher education area.

The University of Nova Gorica started operating in 1995 under the name Faculty of Environmental Sciences, which was, at the time, the first international postgraduate school in Slovenia, founded by the Municipality of Nova Gorica and the Jožef Stefan Institute from Ljubljana.

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Giovanni De Ninno, the research members of the Laboratory of Quantum Optics at the University of Nova Gorica, together with the researchers at the Sinhrotron in Trieste, published an article in the esteemed scientific journal Nature Communications on 20 August.

On Friday, 18 September 2015, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the Mayor of the Municipality of Vipava Ivan Princes, MSc, signed the annex to the long-term agreement on the lease of the newly-renovated second and third sections of the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

On Friday 24 July, 2015, Prof. Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič, the Minister for Education, Science, and Sports visited the University of Nova Gorica. She was invited by the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik.

On Wednesday, 17 June and on Thursday, 18 June, 2015, the graduation ceremony for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students of the University of Nova Gorica was held at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

On Monday, 1 June, 2015, Slovenian foreign Minister Karel Erjavec prepared a visit for the leaders of the diplomatic missions in the Republic of Slovenia in the Vipava Valley and in the Karst region. 26 ambassadors went on this trip.

At the University of Nova Gorica’s venue in the Lanthieri Mansion a reception and a medal ceremony took place yesterday. The medals were given to the female handball team of Mlinotest Ajdovščina who took the third place in the 1. A female state championship.

A video and a series of graphics by Vanja Mervič (Masters of Arts) which were created by using the line electronic microscope and were part of the international project of the University of Nova Gorica, called SUNGREEN (http://sungreen.ung.si), received an award of the Majski salon that is given out by the Association of the Slovene fine arts creators and was dedicated to the theme of »Air«.

On Friday, 15 May, 2015, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the head manager of the Veterinary Hospital Vipava Ivan Princes s.p., Mag. Ivan Princes signed an agreement which gives the Veterinary Hospital Vipava Ivan Princes s.p. the status of an associate organisation of the University of Nova Gorica and became an integral part of the University of Nova Gorica’s system.

A yearly conference of European energy managers took place in Prague between 21 and 23 April 2015. This year, Ivana Kacafura from the GOLEA agency was present as well.

The female handball team Mlinotest Ajdovščina achieved an exceptional success in Ljubljana on Saturday. After many years, they managed to beat the virtually unbeatable female handball team Krim Merctor, who won at the state championship 20 times.

The European University Association asked all European Universities to dedicate a moment of silence to the victims of the recent terrorist attack on a Kenyan University. All universities should join in a moment of silence on Monday 27 April at noon (Central European Time).
