At the 28th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož, the animated film Arachnophobia by Melita Sandrin, a student at the School of Arts, received the Vesna Award for Best Student Film.

An unprecedented study conducted across 43 European sites by an international scientific team coordinated by Université Grenoble Alpes, in collaboration with the CNRS, Inserm, and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), reveals in Nature (22 October 2025) that the ability of airborne particles to generate oxidative stress in the lungs (known as the oxidative potential, or OP) varies according to environmental type (urban, rural, industrial, etc.) and emission sources.

On 24 September 2025, the University of Nova Gorica celebrated its thirty year anniversary at the EPICentre in Nova Gorica with a solemn academy ceremony held under the Honorary Patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, PhD.

Today, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, conferred the title of Honorary Doctor – Doctor Honoris Causa – of the University of Nova Gorica on Prof. Dr. Joachim Mnich, Director for Research and Computing at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The film Little Trouble Girls by the film director Urška Djukić, a former postgraduate student and now Assistant professor at the University of Nova Gorica School of Art, has been selected as the Slovenian Oscar award candidate for year 2025 in the category of the best international film.

On 5 September 2025, the Slovenian National Theatre in Nova Gorica hosted a central celebration, including a ceremonial session of the City Council and the awarding of the Municipality of Nova Gorica prizes.

Following a decision by the Senate of the University of Nova Gorica, the Rector, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, today sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, requesting support for the exclusion of the State of Israel from all activities within the Horizon Europe programme. A copy of the letter was also sent, for information, to the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Ms. Marta Kos.

A model-independent reconstruction of the Universe’s history beyond the standard cosmological model Emilio Bellini, a postdoctoral SMASH fellow, from the University of Nova Gorica, Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology, published a research paper that has been highlighted as "Editor's suggestion" by Physical Review D. The paper shines light on one of the long standing mysteries of our universe, the nature of Dark Energy.

On July 3rd, the formal procedure of the Republic of Slovenia's accession as a full member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva was concluded with the ceremonial hoisting of the Slovenian flag.

The fourth GoChile summer school of astronomy is taking place between 29 June and 6 July 2025, in Ajdovščina. The school is organised by the School of Science of the University of Nova Gorica and is attended by high school students from 6 countries.
