Discussing the Joint European Degree Label
At today’s Platform of Knowledge, dedicated to the Joint European Degree Label (EDL), the University of Nova Gorica was represented in the round table by Prof. Dr. Peter Purg.
The discussion focused on how the European label can support the development of genuinely joint international study programmes – not only through greater visibility, but also through stronger cooperation between partners, shared quality standards, meaningful mobility, and closer links with industry, cultural organisations and civil society.
Prof. Dr. Peter Purg contributed UNG’s experience from three different stages of joint international programme development: CREATES – Art, Culture and Creative Societies, a recently accredited joint international Master’s programme; Science & Society, currently being developed by UNG, the University of Ljubljana and international partners within an Erasmus Mundus Design Measures project; and the internationally renowned EMMIR – European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations, a long-running Erasmus Mundus programme in which UNG is now participating in its fourth funded cycle.
His contribution highlighted the importance of equal access to European opportunities also for smaller and more peripheral universities, stable national and European support, genuine accessibility for students, and regulation that reduces duplication and administrative burden while maintaining high quality standards.
For UNG, this discussion is directly linked to the development of international joint programmes, quality assurance and the University’s long-term position within the European Higher Education Area.
