On 4 December 2017, the first Large Size Telescope (LST), under construction at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Spain, reached an important milestone when its 18-ton mirror dish, mostly made of reinforced carbon fiber tubes, was lifted to the lower structure successfully.

University of Nova Gorica has in the scope of the European Researcher's night on Sep. 29, 2017 organized a number of events to promote science and the profession of a scientist to general public. Main events took place at Bevk square in the downtown of Nova Gorica.

In the scope of the International Doctorate Network in Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology (IDPASC), Laboratory for Astroparticle physics of the University of Nova Gorica hosted the 6th edition of the general IDPASC school at the newly renovated Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava between May 21 - June 1, 2016. The school was made possible with kind support of the Italian Cultural Institute, Ljubljana, Instrumentation Technologies company from Solkan and the Municipality of Ajdovščina.

School of Science of the Unievrsity of Nova Gorica and Slovenian Web Space Portal are announcing a public lecture entitled "Radio telescope of the Bežigrad high school", taking place on May 26, 2016 at the Celje high school. The lecturer will be Dr. Andrej Lajovic, member of the Vega astonomy club and the mentor of the student astronomy club at the Bežigrad high school.

The University of Nova Gorica has, based the evaluation of is activities according to European Council for High Ability (ECHA) criteria become one of the registered European Talent Points and is a part of the European Talent Support Network

On Saturday, Jan 9th, 2016 the 7th National Competition in Astronomy took place at Srednja šola Veno Pilon Ajdovščina, Gimnazija Šentvid Ljubljana and Gimnazija Murska Sobota. The competition is organized by Society of Mathematicians, Physicists, and Astronomers of Slovenia, in collaboration with astrophysicists from the University of Nova Gorica.

On 10.12.2015 there was the 7. national elementary and high-school level competition in astronomy, taking place at 249 schools around Slovenia.
