Impressions of Studying at the University of Nova Gorica

I am glad to have completed my PhD at the University of Nova Gorica, within the Humanities programme at the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies. My dissertation, titled Representation of Africa among the Slovenes from 1850 to 1941, offers a comprehensive exploration of how Africa was portrayed in Slovenian media and educational materials. The primary aim of my research was to deepen the understanding of the external influences that shaped Slovenes’ perceptions of foreigners and contributed to the construction of the “Other.”
My experience at the University of Nova Gorica was truly enriching. I was immersed in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating academic environment, with mentors who were consistently supportive and available to guide me throughout my journey. The programme provided a broad and in-depth perspective on the themes related to my dissertation, and I especially valued its interdisciplinary nature.
Choosing to pursue my doctoral studies at the University of Nova Gorica was a decision that significantly shaped both my academic development and personal growth. I am deeply grateful for the experience.
