Prosto delovno mesto: Postdoctoral Researcher/Assistant Professor - Meshless Methods for Solidification Problems (m/ž)

The Laboratory for Multiphase Processes at University of Nova Gorica (see http://www.ung.si/en/) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher or Assistant Professor to work on a project funded by Slovenian Grant Agency and Štore Steel Company on developing multiscale solidification modeling, based on meshless methods. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work with other members of the research team (see publications of the team http://sabotin.ung.si/~sarler/sarler_papers/ ) on:

Develop, code and test novel solidification models,

Further develop meshless methods,

Apply this models in industrial simulation systems, i.e. continuous casting of steel, direct chill casting of aluminum alloys, etc.

The position will start on approximately October 1, 2012. Annual salary will be competitively offered based on the level and experience of the applicant, and will include full employee benefits. Appointment will be made for one year, with possibility to be prolonged into tenure track position.

The candidates are expected to perform also related teaching activities.

Required Skills:

Solid numerical methods and computer coding experience; knowledge of thermodynamics, solid and fluid mechanics; good communication and presentation skills.

Desired Skills:

Experience in coding with FORTRAN and MATLAB

Recently graduated Ph.D. students without all of the required skills, but who are exceptional in research capability and initiative, are encouraged to apply. There is no specific requirement on the majors of applicants, but the following disciplines are preferred: Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering.

The position is on campus of University of Nova Gorica in Ajdovščina, Slovenia (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajdovščina).
