Diana Martin is a research assistant and PhD candidate at the Wine Research Centre of the University of Nova Gorica. She has an interdisciplinary background in oenology and analytical chemistry and has conducted research in laboratories in Colombia, France and Slovenia.
Her research focuses on wine aroma chemistry, particularly the formation, transformation and stability of volatile compounds during winemaking and storage. Her doctoral work investigates the influence of metal ions on the evolution of esters, monoterpenoids and norisoprenoids in commercial wines and model wine systems.
Her technical expertise includes volatile-compound analysis by HS-SPME–GC–MS, elemental analysis by ICP–MS and ICP–OES, analytical method development and validation, experimental design, sensory evaluation and multivariate statistical analysis. Her work integrates instrumental, sensory and chemometric approaches to better understand the chemical mechanisms leading wine aroma evolution and their consequences for wine quality and sensory perception.
