Objectives and competences
- Focus of the subject is to introduce novel analytical methodologies with application in pre-clinical, clinical trials, cell models and plant experiments.
- The objective of the course is to give students new knowledge and widening of the knowledge acquired in other courses using novel holistic approaches for metabolite evaluation in plants, animals, microbial systems and their interactions.

- The course will be composed of following chapters:
- Metabolome description
- Preparation of experimental design with focus -on decreasing of system variability.
- Sample preparation of food and plant material
- Analytical methods in metabolomics
- Data processing using univariate and multivariate statistical analysis
- Annotation and confirmation of metabolites
- Structural elucidation of new compounds
- Inclusion of metabolites into biosynthetic pathways.
- Using stable isotopes for pathway determination
- Examples of metabolomic studies on plant models, on modelst in viticulture and enology
- Integration of metabolomics with other »omics« approaches as genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.
Intended learning outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding of plant metabolic processes and tools for their evaluation.
- Applications.
- Presentation of ongoing research.
- Reflexion.
- The ability of understanding novel analytical methodologies including their application in pharmaceutical, nutritional and biomedicine practice.

- Critical review of up-to-date research literature, currently developing metabolome databases and data processing on-line platforms.
