Research activity

Primož Mlačnik's research focuses on the form, content and social context of modernist and popular literature and is informed by interdisciplinary cultural studies approaches (critical theory, poststructuralism, psychoanalysis). He analyses the relationships between literary theory, literature and the politics of representation using the methods of deconstruction.

Primož Mlačnik (1990), PhD, completed his undergraduate degree (BA thesis: Processes of Modernity in the works of Hannah Arendt and Franz Kafka: Eichmann in Jerusalem and The Trial, 2014), postgraduate degree (MA thesis: Postmodern Disenchantment: Harry Potter in the Enchanted World, 2016) and doctoral studies (dissertation: The Relation between Melancholy and Modernity in the Case of Franz Kafka's Literature, 2021) at the Department of Cultural Studies (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana), where he was employed as a junior researcher from 2016 to 2021. He studied abroad at the University of Cantabria in Santander (2012-2013), the Catholic University of Leuven (2015) and Humboldt University in Berlin (2019). In recent years, he has presented his work at national and international scientific conferences. He has published articles in humanist, literary and sociological scientific journals. Since 2021, he has been employed at the Research Center for the Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica.
