Palazzo Paternolli is one of the most beautiful buildings at the central square in Gorizia, Piazza della Vittoria, the so called Travnik, in the vicinity of the city’s main church. The palace building is 1,3 km away from the University of Nova Gorica premises in Rožna Dolina (which is connected with other university locations by means of its own transportation), and is 1,5 km away from the Railway station in Nova Gorica.

The students’ residence offers 60 equipped rooms, among these 45 single rooms, 6 two bedrooms, and 3 rooms for students with special needs. The building’s overall space is 1.732 m², and each room has its own bathroom and a kitchen. There is a fitness space on the ground floor, where one can also find a tourist information office of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia land.

At the occasion of the new acquisition, the University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, has pointed out the significance of the new halls of residence for students and for the whole across the border study environment:

»At the University of Nova Gorica we are very pleased that our infrastructure development strategy has gradually been in the process of realisation. The Paternolli Palace, a students’ residence building with a capacity of 60 rooms for accommodation, which stronlgy surpasses the standards of the usual students’ halls of residence, is an important step in establishing a borderless study space of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Students will be able to choose their study at any of the local universities – Udine, Trieste or Nova Gorica – and rest assured that they will recieve excellent, internationally competitive education. Students will be able to not only sleep in the halls of residemce but to live and study there in the full sense of the words. At the University we look forward to our being present and to our future development in this region«.

The building of the Paternolli Palace has been rennovated fully, with all the necessary equipment, so the students may start their living there without delay. A little bit more time is needed to arrange the operational logistics (cleaning service, maintainance, etc.). The premises in the new students’ halls of residence will be available to all students, though it is the students of the University of Nova Gorica who will naturally have an advantage in the application process. An estimated cost of a monthly rent is in the range of 180 € to 280 €, and we truly hope that the costs would be lower in the context of the opportunity for obtaining subsidy for student residence in line with the Slovenian legislation.

The new student premises in the Palazzo Paternolli represent an important step in the development strategy of the University of Nova Gorica infrastructure, which strongly believes in the rapid development of the unified cross-border region, often called the region of the European capital of culture.
