University of Nova Gorica at the first Festival of Slovenian universities UNI-SI

According to the organiser’s estimates, the event was visited by some 10,000 visitors, mostly by secondary school and gimnazija students, their parents and advisors, as the secondary school srudents are in the process of decision making concerning furthering their education at the university level.

University of Nova Gorica presented itself at the Festival at its own exhibition space, showing a rich offer of study programmes. Secondary school and gimnazija students could acquaint themselves with more than 400 study programmes offered at the Slovenian universities; a special emphasis was given to a detailed presentation of seven content fields, which made the orientation and comparison of study programmes easier.

A special attention to the Festival was also paid by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, who supported the event under the honourable auspicies and who also visited the event herself. Upon visiting the exhibition space of the University of Nova Gorica, she was received by the University’s Vice-rector for sustainable development and technology, Prof. Dr. Matjaž Valant.

The Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, said at the occasion:
»I am very pleased to see the unfolding of the first event of the Slovenian universities, the UNI-SI Festival, as both the offers and the visits are exceptional, and the event is clearly focused on the study programmes of all universities. I think we have really had a good conception of this event and that it will be successful in the future as well«.

The UNI-SI Festival was not only an exhibition event but a wholesome information platform which, with its active internet page and social networks, will continue to offer support and relevant information to secondary school and gimnazija students after the Festival as well, until they enter their chosen study programne.

All members of the Rectors’ Conference of Slovenian universities take part in organising the Festival, with the University of Maribor taking over the organisation of the event over the next two years; up to now, the roles of the presiding and deputy presiding university have been fulfilled by the University of Primorska and the University of Nova Gorica. UNI-SI has thus become an important step towards a unified, clear and accessible presentation of the Slovenian university space.
