University of Nova Gorica invites to the public lecture Mirror Images of Molecules and the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry by Doc. Dr. Tina Škorjanc (Materials Research Laboratory, University of Nova Gorica).

Lecture will take place on Thursday, 10 December 2026, at 6 p.m. at the EPICenter in Nova Gorica (Kolodvorska pot 10).

ABSTRACT:
Like our hands, some molecules are mirror images of one another. This phenomenon is known as chirality, and in this popular science lecture, we will explain it using examples of molecules that make up our bodies. The main part of the lecture will focus on the connection between molecular mirror images and this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry. How can only one mirror image of a molecule be formed when both have the same chemical composition? You are warmly invited to attend this lecture, which will be held in Slovenian.
