International Conference on Female Sexual Desire in Women’s Writing
On 23 and 24 September 2026, the Research Centre for the Humanities at the University of Nova Gorica will host the international scientific conference Female Sexual Desire in Women’s Writing (pre 1940): Exploring and Digitally Modelling Texts and Reception.
The conference will bring together presentations of original research on female sexual desire in literary works written before 1940. The studies combine approaches from traditional literary scholarship, including close reading, with contemporary digital methods of text analysis.
Researchers from universities and research institutions across Europe, from the United Kingdom and Scandinavia to Central and Southern Europe, will take part in the conference. The presentations will explore Slovenian, Croatian, Hungarian, Latvian, Czech, Italian, Spanish, French, English and other literary traditions, often placing them in a transnational and comparative context.
The event is part of the research project Female Sexual Desire in the Works of Slovenian Women Writers (1890–1940) in a Transnational Perspective (DEWONA), funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS). The project is led by Prof. Dr. Katja Mihurko at the Research Centre for the Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica.
