What Will AI Make Us? Smarter or Dumber? More or Less Human?
University of Nova Gorica invites to the public lecture What Will AI Make Us? Smarter or Dumber? More or Less Human? by Prof. Dr. Johannes Schneider (University of Liechtenstein).
Lecture will take place on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at 5 p.m. at the the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.
ABSTRACT:
We worry a great deal about what AI will become. But the more important question may be: what will AI make us? Some people already describe AI companions as their “boyfriend” or “girlfriend,” and increasingly personalized and capable AI agents may accelerate this trend. But will AI make us smarter or dumber? Lonelier or more connected? More autonomous or more dependent? We will first demystify some of the technology behind modern AI, then examine what scientific research tells us so far about its effects on human thinking, development and relationships—and finally explore how we might shape AI so that it changes us for the better.
Lecture will be in English.
Prof. Dr. Johannes Schneider will visit the University of Nova Gorica as an invited speaker at the SMASH – Machine Learning for Science and Humanities project conference, which will take place at the University of Nova Gorica.
