Other forms of career orientation for secondary school students
The University of Nova Gorica offers various forms of career guidance for young people, aiming to introduce them to different professions and inspire their interest in science and research.
The university presents its study and research fields, as well as the professions it educates for, at career fairs, through lectures and workshops at schools, at science and education festivals, and at UNG summer/winter schools. Additionally, it provides students with opportunities for internships or job shadowing, allowing them to observe a chosen profession in action. Job shadowing has become an increasingly popular form of career guidance among high school students, enabling them to spend a day at a selected company or organization, observing professionals in their daily work within fields that interest them. This experience gives students valuable insight into their desired career path and helps them establish connections with potential employers.
For several years, the university has been hosting students from high schools in Ajdovščina, Vipava, Postojna, Sežana, Ilirska Bistrica and Idrija as part of the Job Shadowing Programme, coordinated by the Institute for Youth Policy.
The university also offers opportunities career orientation visits to the secondary-school students of the Nova Gorica Grammar School (Gimnazija Nova Gorica), where the programme is conducted in collaboration with the Ljudska univerza Nova Gorica (Nova Gorica Adult Education Centre).
