Objectives and competences

Students perform guided-inquiry experiments in the field of condensed matter.
Students will have the opportunity to develop higher-order skills by doing research based mini- projects. Experiments of this nature provide students with the opportunity to solve problems, apply concepts, formulate hypotheses and allow metacognition.

Content

  • Solar cell characterization.
  • Photoemission experiment on solid surfaces.
  • Fluorescence experiments.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course students will gain knowledge on how to plan and perform complex experiment including these steps:

  • literature search, preparation of mini-research project proposal
  • measurement and computerized data collection
  • data analysis, comparison with mathematical models and/or data available in literature
  • writting a research report
  • analysis defense of results
