Gender Stereotypes in Slovene Youth Literature

This course is part of the programme
Master's Degree Programme Humanities Studies

Objectives and competences

The course introduces students to the different forms of stereotype in youth literature. At the same time, students will learn about the use of contemporary, multidisciplinary theories in the study of Slovene youth literature. These argue that youth literature reproduces prejudices and stereotypes at a structural level in an unconscious way and that only by gaining knowledge about them can they be made aware of them. Students thus develop a sensitivity to detect the hidden mechanisms by which traditional value hierarchies are created in texts. All this gives them the possibility of critically transferring this model to other fields.

Prerequisites

The course is vertically integrated with courses on Slovene literature and literary theory and methodology. At the horizontal level, it is linked with other literary studies courses, as well as with psychology and didactics, and, in the case of some readings (illustrations), also with the fine arts.
