Objectives and competences
Students have a problematic approach to naming literary periods and other literary phenomena and are able to think critically about the relationship between these phenomena.

Completed Matura in Slovene language and literature or a comparable level of knowledge
Content
Literary-historical review of Slovene poetry from Prešeren to the present day, with the inclusion of comparative literary history and literary-theoretical notions related to poetry:
- France Prešeren and European Romance
- Poetry of Slovenian realism
- Slovenian modern
- Slovenian futuristic and expressionist lyrics
- Slovene poetry of the uprising: 1941-1945
- The period of intimism, modernism, post-modernism
- Young Slovenian poetry from the 1990s onwards
Discussion of selected authors and works in the seminar: France Prešeren, Simon Jenko, slovenska moderna, Aloj Gradnik, Srečko Kosovel, Anton Podbevšek, Pesmi štirih, Edvard Kocbek, Dane Zajc, Tomaž Šalamun, Gregor Strniša, Milan Dekleva, Niko Grafenauer, Svetlana Makarovič, Alojz Ihan, Aleš Debeljak, Maja Vidmar, Anja Golob, Katja Perat etc.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:

students know, understand and know how to use basic theoretical and periodization concepts related to Slovenian poetry;

know and are able to place the main texts and their authors in time,

are capable of in-depth analysis and interpretation of the basic texts of Slovene poetry and their evaluation according to the developmental arc of Slovene literature.

Lecturer's references
Prof. dr. Ana Toroš is employed at the Faculty of Humanities and at the Research Center for the Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica (UNG). In addition to pedagogical and research work, she is the director of the study program Humanities III. degree, which operates within the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies of UNG. Her research is focused on the field of regional comparative literature and literary imagology, and she is interested in multilingual literature in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy) and in the Goriška and Obalno-kraška regions.
