Objectives and competences

The students learn about Slovenian performing arts. The students will be able to contextualise this topics and draw parallels between Slovenian and foreign performing arts.They will be able to research in this field. With the help of seminars and lectures they will learn about performing arts and their social impacts. They will develop the critical relationship toward the institution of theatre and get acquinted with the research of theatre from the perspective of
social complexity.

There are no enrolment or degree requirements for the course.

Content

The course Slovene Performing arts opens the question of performing and social dimension of the theater creation. It touches upon specifics of theatre history (world and Slovenian) and includes the
epistemological approaches in research of the performing arts and culture. The students get familiar with the most important events in the history of the Slovenian theatre in the context of the
European practices. The subjects includes the findings of the modern studies in the fields of theatre history, sociology of theatre, cultural history and sociology of culture. In the seminars the students are aquinted with the contemporary theatre production and actively participate in the discussion. They also get familiar with the profession of the proofreader and dramaturg in the theatre.

Intended learning outcomes

The students learn about the history of Slovenian theatre in connection with the world and European theatre tradition, the learn the terminology and are able to write an essay about performance.

Lecturer's references

Dr. Katja Mihurko is s Full Professor in Literature at the School of Humanitis of the University of Nova Gorica. Her research interests include: new approaches in literary sciences (predominantly gender studies), intercultural contacts, literary geography, Slovenian drama. In the field of Slovenian literature research, her attention is devoted to the works of women writers.
