Opening of the Summer School Crossing Media Boundaries: Gender and Writing across Artistic Media
The third interdisciplinary summer school in the humanities, organized by the University of Nova Gorica, the CEEPUS network Women Writers in History, and the Women Writers Route Association.
We have prepared the interdisciplinary summer school Crossing Media Boundaries: Gender and Writing across Artistic Media (27 August–1 September 2025), hosted at the Research Centre for the Humanities and the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica. Following our previous explorations of intimacy in women’s writing (2021) and sexual desire in women’s writing (2023), this year we turn to the exciting intersections of gender, writing, and media.

Participants from across Europe discuss questions such as:
🔹 How do book covers, illustrations, and visual media reflect – or challenge – gender stereotypes?
🔹 What happens when women’s writing goes beyond the printed page and enters magazines, zines, and digital platforms?
🔹 How do women artists and writers challenge norms across different media – from literature to film and memes?
🔹 Which methods best help us understand these intersections, and what new perspectives does an interdisciplinary approach open up?

The week is filled with intensive discussions, creative experiments, and international collaboration, continuing the tradition of our previous summer schools on intimacy, desire, and literature.
