Presentation of the collection’s upgrade and the 2,000th letter at the Open Day of the Research Centre for Humanities, February 5, 2025, at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Nova Gorica


At the Open Day of the Research Centre for Humanities, held on February 5, 2025, at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Nova Gorica, we proudly presented the PISMA database among the centre’s key achievements. We are pleased to announce that our database has now reached an important milestone – 2,000 letters have been digitized.

As part of the Month of Science and the Citizen Science Network, we organized a workshop titled From Manuscript to Keyboard: A Workshop on Digitizing Old Letters on November 25, 2024, at the Nova Gorica Public Library. We first introduced the letter collection and its possibilities, and then the participants, guided through the workshop, input the letters into the database and equipped them with the appropriate metadata

Dr. Katja Mihurko Poniž presented the PISMA database and the importance of digital repositories to the students. She demonstrated the process of inputting letters and provided instructions for transcribing the letters. The students transcribed letters by Franjo Boršnik and the correspondence between Andrej Gabršček and Henrik Tuma.
