Towards the end of May, rector of the University of Nova Gorica (UNG), prof. dr. Boštjan Golob, on behalf of the UNG colleagues sent a letter of support to the academic colleagues of Harvard University concerning their defence of university autonomy.

In the letter he emphasised that academic freedom and autonomy are not to be taken for granted, they have been developed gradually, not without struggles, since the beginning of the 11th century, through the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, the Humboldt model of university to contemporary universities. He expressed his belief that for Harvard the present conflict with the American administration will be only a perturbation in the history of intellectual development.

President of Harvard University, prof. dr. Alan M. Garber, has responded to the UNG rector by emphasising that he shared the expressions of solidarity with the team members who directly deal with the current difficulties, and has expressed his appreciation for the shown support.
