University of Nova Gorica invites to the public lecture LEGO at the atomic scale: the Nobel prize in Chemistry 2025 by Doc. Dr. Tina Škorjanc (Materials Research Laboratory, University of Nova Gorica).

Lecture will take place on THursday, 15 January 2026, at 5 p.m. at the the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.

ABSTRACT:
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are materials built from metals and organic linker molecules - like LEGO at the atomic scale - featuring a large amount of ordered empty space in the form of pores. In this popular-science lecture, we will explore how well-designed pores in MOFs are key to their function as “super-absorbing sponges.” MOFs can capture gases, purify water, and enable new technologies. If you’re curious why this ingenious idea was worthy of the Nobel Prize in 2025, you’re invited to the next Science Evening at UNG.

Lecture will be in English.

Warmly welcome!
