University of Nova Gorica invites to the public lecture Organic Solar Cells – flexible & efficient but not yet stable by Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Gregor Trimmel (ICTM - Institute for Chemistry and Technology of Materials, Graz University of Technology, Austria).

Lecture will take place on Wednesday, 21 February 2024, at 4 p.m. at the the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.

Organic solar cells are a fascinating technology, as the active material of only 100 to 200 nm can convert sun light into electricity within an efficiency of 20%. In addition, organic solar cells are fully flexible and can be easily printed in different colors.

This talk will give a short historic overview on (organic) photovoltaics. Furthermore, the presentation will give an introduction of the physics of organic semiconductors and the principles of organic solar cells. Subsequently, it will be discussed how chemists and device physicists have developed strategies towards more efficient materials. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of this technology will be discussed and compared to the well-established silicon technologies.

Lecture will be in English.
