UNG Student athlete testimonial: Kristjan Čujec
futsal player and student of Engineering and Management, 2nd level
“I’ve been practising sports since the first grade of primary school, when I started playing football. Besides football, futsal is very popular in the upper Soča Valley, so I soon joined the Puntar Kneža Futsal Club. I was really attracted by this quick and dynamic sport and I fully committed myself to it. In my career, I’ve been playing for clubs from Spain, Italy, Croatia, Azerbaijan and Slovenia. I’m currently a member of the Dobovec Futsal Club from Rogatec and a member of the Slovenian national futsal team – with the latter I’ve been playing at five European championships.
Education is part of athletes’ lives, as through education they obtain key knowledge, which will serve them after their sports careers. In this respect, choosing a sports-friendly educational institution is of key importance. As a graduate of Engineering and Management I can share my positive experience of studying at theSchool of Engineering and Management, University of Nova Gorica. The School’s individual approach enabled me to easily manage my sports career and studies, so I can claim that high-level sports are not an obstacle for successful studies.
As the current times require from us to quickly adapt to changes, I decided to continue my studies at the second-level study programme Engineering and Management. In this way I’d like to get important multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge, which will further increase my employment prospects after finishing my sports career.”

Statement of Kristjan Čujec, a member of the Slovenian national futsal team, about his success at the the 2018 UEFA Futsal Championship:
“These were surely unforgettable matches and the halls full of spectators led us to good results. We did our best and came up to the quarterfinals. But we weren’t lucky enough to arrive any further. I think we managed to show to the general public that futsal is a serious and attractive sport with a bright future. At this point I’d like to thank the University of Nova Gorica for the support in my efforts to combine my studies and my sports career.”
