Highlights from the winter School on adapting viticulture to climate change, 3rd–7th February, 2025

From 3rd to 7th February 2025, the international winter school titled Transformative Adaptation in Viticulture: From Climate Smart to Climate Resilient took place in Udine, Italy, bringing together students from six universities across Europe and beyond. The main focus of the school was adapting viticulture to climate change and exploring solutions for more sustainable and resilient grape production.

Among the participants were master's students from the School for Viticulture and Enology, who had the opportunity to expand their knowledge of climate change impacts and various adaptation strategies. The lectures were led by renowned experts in viticulture, including professors and researchers from the Wine Research Centre at the University of Nova Gorica, who presented the latest scientific findings and solutions.

The winter school was not limited to theoretical lectures—an essential part of the program included professional excursions, during which students visited three representative Italian wineries and a renowned vine nursery. On-site, they explored best practices and innovative approaches to sustainable viticulture.

The event provided students with a valuable opportunity for international knowledge exchange and experience-sharing while emphasizing the importance of adapting viticulture to increasingly unpredictable climate conditions.
