Impressions from the ACROSS summer school on sustainable building and cities, Białystok, Poland, June-July 2025

Between 30th June and 9th July 2025, the students of the University of Nova Gorica participated in two ACROSS summer schools: VIPSKILLS – Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings and GLOCAL – Effective Solutions for a Sustainable City, organized by the Bialystok University of Technology (Poland) as part of the activities of the ACROSS Alliance of European Cross-Border Universities.

The students had the opportunity to explore sustainable solutions in architecture and urban planning, share examples of best practices, and discuss innovative approaches to sustainability.

Highlights from the summer school were shared with us by our international student Md Rezanuzzaman from Bangladesh, a master’s student of the Engineering and Management programme at the School of Engineering and Management:

“I participated in the international summer school Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings, organized by the Bialystok University of Technology within the framework of the ACROSS project. The summer school focused on sustainable architectural design, energy-efficient technologies, and environmental engineering systems. The program included expert-led lectures, collaborative workshops, site visits, as well as intercultural team projects and fun activities. The experience undoubtedly deepened my understanding of universal design principles, BIM integration, and the financial and technical aspects of sustainable construction.”

Selected students from the University of Nova Gorica and other partner universities in the ACROSS network received scholarships under the “Support for European Universities” project to cover travel expenses to Poland, a lump-sum allowance for accommodation and living costs, and a residential grant for participation in the summer schools.
