Objectives and competences

The objective of the course is to teach students how to build a computer system that enables data acquisition with standard protocols, data processing and presentation. Students should be able to independently build an example of such a computer system.

  1. Measuring systems:
    - Measuring devices
    - Analogue-digital conversion, signal sampling
    - Computer interfaces, buses, drivers
    - Connection of measuring devices with computer

  2. Types of buses
    - Serial interface
    - Digital and analogue input/output interfaces
    - GPIB, CAMAC, FastBusm VME, VXI

  3. Interface drivers
    - Core and modules
    - Driver structure
    - An example of a driver
    -“Real-time” systems

  4. Data acquisition systems
    - Acquisition control

Intended learning outcomes

Understanding the fundamental principles of data acquisition. Ability to build and control an automated system for data acquisition.
