Objectives and competences
The student gets acquainted with Trieste literature from the point of view of comparative literary history.
Prerequisites
Literary-historical review of Slovene literature from the 19th century onwards.
Knowledge of basic literary theoretical concepts.
Desirable knowledge of the Italian language.

“Tržaška literatura”: a critical examination of the term

Literature of Slovenes in Trieste (selection of authors and works, seminar work)

Istrian literature (selection of authors and works, seminar work).

“Letteratura triestina” (selection of authors and works, seminar work)

Literature about Trieste in German and English (selection of authors and works, seminar work).

Comparative approach, geocritical and imagological analysis of selected literary works, using the concepts of collective memory, trauma and postmemory
Intended learning outcomes
• The student understands the difference between the terms “tržaška literatura” and “letteratura triestina”.
• The student knows the development of Slovenian Trieste literature.
• The student knows the main representatives of Trieste literature and their works.
• The student is able to analyze Triestine literature from the point of view of literary imagology and geocriticism and taking into account the concepts of collective memory, postmemory and collective trauma.

Lecturer's references
Prof. dr. Ana Toroš is employed at the Faculty of Humanities and at the Research Center for the Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica (UNG). In addition to pedagogical and research work, she is the director of the study program Humanities III. degree, which operates within the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies of UNG. Her research is focused on the field of regional comparative literature and literary imagology, and she is interested in multilingual literature in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy) and in the Goriška and Obalno-kraška regions.
