Slovene Literature II
Bachelor's study programme Slovene Studies (1st Level)
Objectives and competences
The students learn about the development of Slovenian literature, about the genres, themes in the period 1850-1918 and are able to analyse and interprete the texts from this period.
Prerequisites
Succesful study is vertically connected with other subjects about literary history in the obligatory course Slovene literature I. At the horizontal level the subject connects with other subjects considering literary history and criticism. It also connects with the subjects from the field of linguistics.
Content
The students learn the specifics of Slovenian literature in the period from realism to modernity. The survey includes the most important authors in this period and contextualise them in the history of European literature.
Intended learning outcomes
The students will also broaden their knowledge about the Slovenian authors, their works and concepts connected to Slovenian and world literature. They will be able to analyse literary works within the literary periods, currents, genres etc.

Assessment
Two tests (30%), one seminar paper (30%), one written exam (40%).
Lecturer's references
Dr. Katja Mihurko Poniž is a Full Professor in Literature and a dean of the School of Humanitis of the University of Nova Gorica. Her research interests include: new approaches in literary sciences (predominantly gender studies), intercultural contacts, literary geography, Slovenian drama. In the field of Slovenian literature research, her attention is devoted to the works of women writers.
