The key objective of the course is for students to acquire knowledge of fields-specific terminology in English, that is, to acquire the fundamental conceptual grounding related to these fields.

Students obtain the following competences:
- knowledge of terminology and concepts in the fields of business studies, management, and related fields.
- mastering the principles of successful business communication in English;
- mastering the principles of English grammar;
- mastering fundamental critical thinking skills.

A secondary education (matura level) of general English knowledge is required.

Knowledge and understanding:

Students are introduced to fundamental principles of text analysis and analysis of specific concepts. The main part of the course is concerned with in-depth analyses of texts, explanation of key concepts in English, and on students' reflections on the themes covered. A great deal of the course is devoted to widening and enriching one's vocabulary and concepts, and raising awareness and understanding of the importance of critical thinkking skills within an academic, professional or business context.

At practical sessions, students are acquainted with the fundamentals of the English grammar, a rich architecture of the language. Students practice English tenses in particular, and thus stabilize and enhance their individual level of English.

Mag. Milena Kovačević
Principal education and research areas: English literature; Comparative literature.

After obtaining BA (Hons) in English language and literature and Comparative Literature from Zagreb
University, prof. Kovačević was asked to work as novice researcher within and international project at English department, Zagreb University. Prof. Kovačević then spent eight years as advisor for the field of British education in British cultural diplomacy (British Council Zagreb). Prof. Kovačević has been teaching English at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia (since year 2003) and has had lectures at universities in France, England, Denmark, Italy, Greece.
