ACROSS European University meeting
The ACROSS European University kick-off meeting took place at the Chemnitz University of Technology in Chemnitz, Germany, from 4 to 6 March 2025.

In addition to the University of Nova Gorica, eight universities from different border regions participate in the international network: Technical univeristy of Chemnitz (Germany), University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Technical University of Bialystok (Poland), University of Craiova (Romania), University of Girona (Spain), University of Perpignan Via Doimitia (France), University of Udine (Italy), University of Ruse (Bulgaria) and the associate partner institution National University Ivan Franko from Lvova (Ukraine).
The primary purpose of the project, which is co-financed by the European Commission with approximately €14 million, is to examine the organisational, legal and substantive possibilities of operating the alliance of universities as a single entity, with a total of more than 100,000 students. The aim of the ACROSS European University is to address the specific challenges of the border areas by promoting a smooth cross-border cooperation.
The meeting was attended by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, the Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Penka Stateva, the Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Matjaž Valant as well as some staff members and students of the University of Nova Gorica. The work was carried out in the framework of 16 working groups, whose tasks are defined in the detailed ACROSS work plan.
There are currently 65 networks of universities with the European University status, representing just over 10% of all universities operating in Europe and forming the core of the European higher education system.
