Prof. dr. Tanja Urbančič, a long standing professor of the University of Nova Gorica, recipient of the national award for life work in the field of higher education
On Friday 4 October, the awards of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of education were given at a traditional ceremony in Linhart hall of Ljubljana’s Cankarjev dom, under the auspices of the Ministry of education.
This year, six awards for outstanding achievements have been bestowed, and five outstanding individuals have received awards for life work. One of them is a long standing professor of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Tanja Urbančič, who has received the award for life work in the field of higher education.
Prof. dr. Urbančič has been dean of the School of Engineering and Management of the University of Nova Gorica for more than twenty years. She led and lectured in several subjects at the masters level. In the time of her deanship, more than 600 students of Engineering and Management completed their studies. In cooperation with the UNESCO experts, she established, developed and, in the first three years, led an innovative international mentor programme Open Education for a Better World, which has been exceptionally successful. In November 2023, prof. dr. Urbančič retired, while still continuing her mission through the University of Nova Gorica Foundation.
The awards of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of education are the greatest national awards in the field of education, and they have been awarded, in their present name, since 1994. The awards are a legacy of the so called Žagar awards, which were first given in 1966. The awarded individuals, based on a public call, are chosen by the awarding committee; the recipients can be individuals, groups, institutions or other organisations which have shown outstanding achievements or life work in the field of education.
Congratulations!
