IN MEMORIAM: PROF. DR. JUKKA JOKILEHTO (1938 – 2023)

It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our esteemed professor and one of the fathers of our program, Professor dr. Jukka Jokilehto. He played a crucial role as a founding member of our doctoral program in Cultural Heritage Studies and initiated the first joint international educational initiative in Architectural Conservation.

Professor Jokilehto delivered his first lecture in October 2005 launching our joint Master program in Economics and Techniques for Conservation in Architectural and Environmental Heritage, established between the University of Nova Gorica and Università IUAV di Venezia.

Jukka will be remembered as an inspiring mentor, admired educator, and, most importantly, a human and esteemed colleague. We had the unique privilege of learning from him and experiencing his inexhaustible passion for knowledge and tenacious heritage stewardship.

We want to remember him as in this picture with our student dr. Shujie Chen, just few months ago. We have always known him like this: serene with his students, generously sharing his boundless passion for knowledge.

We will miss him deeply.
