An innovation from the University of Nova Gorica receives a silver award
On 21 June the North Primorska Chamber of Commerce Nova Gorica awarded accolades to the best innovators in the region.

One such award went to the University of Nova Gorica and its team consisting of Dr. Jurij Urbančič and Dr. Barbara Ressel from the University of Nova Gorica, and Dr. Patrizia Melpignano from the company OR-EL d.o.o., who together received a silver award for optimising the adhesion potential of olefin polymer cartridges for use in biosensors.
Basis for receiving the award:
The University of Nova Gorica and the company OREL d.o.o. have developed an environmentally friendly method of optimising olefin polymer film, which can be used as a cartridge in biosensors. The method entails initial treatment of the film with oxygen plasma, followed by chemical modification of the surface by immersion in a solution of ethanol, water, and GPTS. This process ensures that the surface of the cartridge binds toxins, bacteria, and viruses to itself, which the biosensor may then recognise with the help of fluorescence.
Congratulations!
