Nina Bonifacio, student of the MA programme Humanities Studies – Linguistics track
I am Nina Bonifacio, student, enrolled to the Double Degree programme between the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where I study Language sciences (part of the Scienze del linguaggio track), and the University of Nova Gorica on the Humanities studies – Linguistics track.
As part of the Double Degree programme, I stayed at UNG only for one semester, nevertheless, I was very glad to have made the experience. When I enrolled to the university, I was not quite sure what to expect. After finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Foreign languages and literatures, I only knew I wanted to continue my path with a Master’s degree in Linguistics (I was always quite fond of languages words, their usage). Besides that, I grew up with two languages, Slovenian and Italian, thus the possibility of obtaining a double degree both in Slovenia and Italy seemed to have been made for me.
After finishing the semester at UNG I can say I do not regret my choice. The Venetian university is indeed larger than UNG, so I was pleasantly surprised by the tranquil environment of Rožna Dolina. There is a relatively small number of students and the communication between the professors and students is thus really effective and fast. What is more, the courses are very flexible, the study load is adept to the programme and the work itself is well-balanced throughout the whole semester. The professors can also dedicate a lot of time to each student, which is a great advantage. UNG is overall well-organised and available to foreign students – international connections can definitely be made! UNG has also enriched me thanks to the foreign and visiting professors, who have enlarged my view over the field of linguistics.
Finally, the University is located in a culturally rich environment – the Goriška region, the Carst, the Slovenian coast, Italy, the Alps; there are definitely many opportunities for a trip during the weekend!
