Event description:
The round table Impact of AI on science and society is part of the week-long First SMASHing workshop* (7th-11th October 2024), which will comprise various discussions of different machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques and presentations of successful applications onto the research areas covered by the SMASH training programme.
The round table will host the following panelists:
- Vida Groznik (CEO and co-founder at NEUS diagnostics and Assistant Professor at University of Ljubljana, FRI)
- Brigita Jurisic (Business and Strategic Relations Officer, INL, Portugal)

The event will be moderated by science journalist Ms. Maja Ratej.
*About the The First SMASHing workshop: The workshop will gather scientists working in the SMASH research areas with the aim to create a multi-disciplinary environment that will foster knowledge exchange between different fields and between academia and industry, thereby building the SMASH community. The workshop will be structured around discussions of different classes of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, followed up with examples on the successful application in SMASH research areas. More specifically, the workshop will focus on:
- large language models/Graphs/transformers and time series;
- computer vision/generative models;
- statistical approaches (simulation based inference, etc.);
- reinforcement/unsupervised learning.
