Event description:
The Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences is tradiotionally opening its doors to visitors. You will be able to see what its various laboratories look like and what a typical day of a researcher working in the laboratory is like.
Our laboratories cover the area of environmental sciences, detection and quantification of pollutants in the environment (how to characterise heavy metals, pesticides etc. by using analytical instruments), production and cleansing of proteins/biomarkers for various applications; and we also deal with virology and cell biology, monitoring the environmental impact on cell behaviour.
During the laboratory visit, you will learn about the research equipment used, the instruments for gas, liquid and ionic cromatography, ICP-MS for the detection of heavy metals, modern spectrophotometres, laser laboratory and various unique instruments for the advance preparation of samples. Microscopes, laminaria, incubators and centrifuges, as well electrophoresis machines, which are used to estimate the growth of cells, bacteria or yeasts.
For groups of more than 5 visitors extra laboratory visit dates/times can be arranged upon prior agreement (please contact petra.makoric@ung.si).
