Business English

Objectives and competences

The key objective of the course: students will acquire knowledge of fields-specific
terminology in English at an advanced level of understanding and application.
Students will obtain the following competences: knowledge of terminology and concepts in the fields of business studies, management, and
related fields;
mastering the principles of successful business communication in English;
mastering fundamental critical thinking skills and application of the skills in independent tasks and reflections.

Prerequisites

A secondary education (matura level) of general English knowledge is required; desirable knowledge: English at first degree programme.

Content

An in-depth analysis of themes from the fields of business studies and management.
Principles of successful business communication.
Practice sessions: individual
reflections on the themes covered.

Intended learning outcomes

Students are introduced to principles of text analysis and analysis of specific concepts.The key part of the course is concerned with in-depth analyses of texts, and with students' independent reflections on the themes covered. A great deal of the course is devoted to widening and enriching one's vocabulary and concepts. At practice sessions, students are encouraged to apply ethical discernment of critical thinking skills in individual reflections.

Mag. Milena Kovačević

Principal education and research areas: English literature; Comparative literature.
After obtaining BA (Hons) in English language and literature and Comparative Literature from ZagrebUniversity, prof. Kovačević was asked to work as novice researcher within and international project at English department, Zagreb University. Prof. Kovačević then spent eight years as advisor for the field of
British education in British cultural diplomacy (British Council Zagreb). Prof. Kovačević has been teaching English at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia (since year 2003) and has had lectures at universities in
France, England, Denmark, Italy, Greece.
