Opening of the international scientific conference Avant-garde and the End of the World
The official opening of the three-day international scientific conference with an artistic programme Avant-Garde and the End of the World took place at Kromberk Castle today.
The central theme of the conference is the ways of (co-)creating a radical vision of the world; the aim of the event is to create a platform for discussing the role of literature, art, and activism in addressing contemporary challenges, and to explore how the avant-garde contributes to the understanding, shaping, and transformation of the world in the context of the apocalypse.
The Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, prof. dr. Boštjan Golob, addressed those present at the event, emphasizing that a university without this kind of scientific activity is not a real university. "This conference is yet another proof that humanities at the University of Nova Gorica is another solid pillar of both pedagogical and research activities."
The event will celebrate the centenary of The First Constructivist Exhibition by avant-gardist Avgust Černigoj, whose work made a key contribution to the understanding of socially engaged art. August Černigoj and his activities are strongly connected with the area of Gorica and his native Trieste.
The conference is organised by the Research Center for Humanities and School of Humanities at the University of Nova Gorica, within the research programme “Historical Interpretation of the 20th Century”. Part of the artistic programme belongs to the official GO!2025 programme of the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica - Gorizia.
