Prof. Dr. Matjaž Valant and the mayor Dr. Klemen Miklavič introduced the Minister to the Green Technologies Centre project, which is being developed in close cooperation with local communities, domestic companies and the University of Nova Gorica as project leader. It is a centre for development of industrial innovations based on green technologies. “What we want to create here, is Slovenia’s hub for all activities related to the development of green technologies”, said Prof. Dr. Valant.

As claimed by the mayor Dr. Miklavič, it is necessary to provide infrastructure, laboratories and premises where such activities could take place. “We are talking about activities that would support small- and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in developing technologies used to create globally competitive products. In the coming years, the European Union will also be heavily investing in green technologies. This is why it is necessary to plan ahead so that we may use such funds here as well”, he pointed out.

Minister Zdravko Počivalšek recognised the Green Technologies Centre project as a regional project and as one that should be supported both in terms of the idea as well as with concrete financial support mechanisms for its implementation.
