Digital Arts and Practices study programme at the University of Nova Gorica now free of tuition

“Our students – future artists – will now be able to freely attend a programme that has so far, despite having tuition, attracted a significant number of students. We are also pleased that we are offering a study programme here that is complementary to others available in Slovenia, and that the granted concession recognises the enrichment of the study areas that are made available with it”, said the rector of the University of Nova Gorica Prof. Dr. Boštjan Golob, and added “We sincerely hope that the concession will be long-lasting and that, by offering a lasting study programme in this field, we will have the opportunity to offer society a staff that will enrich it.”

The School of Arts focuses on the development of authorial personalities who create in a variety of art fields and media – film, animation, photography – new media and contemporary art practices. The interdisciplinary and intermedia orientation of the highly practical study programme in a quality academic environment is ensured by a rich set of professional associates and visiting mentors. Along with diverse mobility opportunities, students are involved in projects and collaborations with both the local community and the wider international environment.

“As I said, the Digital Arts and Practices programme is not something new that we only started now that it has been granted a concession. The programme was opened for the first time in the academic year 2009/10. Despite the tuition fees, there has been a lot of interest in the programme, and so far we can boast of more than 60 graduates. Proof that the work of the School is of high quality and the study is interesting for new generations, in addition to the opinion on the good study experience of generations of students, is certainly the success of students and especially later graduates with their work in the domestic and international space. And that is why we are proud that we can no longer imagine a film festival in Slovenia or a selection for the presentation of Slovenian film and animated film in the world, without the work of our students and graduates”, said Prof. Boštjan Potokar, Dean of the School of Arts.

As part of the undergraduate study programme Digital Arts and Practices and the Master’s degree in Media Arts and Practices, students work in environments and core modules of animation, photography, (video) film, new media, scenographic spaces and contemporary art practices.

In the academic year 2022/23, up to 20 places are available in the undergraduate study programme Digital Arts and Practices, and up to 15 places in the master’s study programme Media Arts and Practices.

The first application deadline for citizens of EU Member States and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship to enrol in undergraduate study programmes is from 15 February to 18 March 2022, and for enrolment in the master’s and doctoral study programmes from 15 February to 30 March 2022.
