7th National Competition in Astronomy

On Saturday, Jan 9th, 2016 the 7th National Competition in Astronomy took place at Srednja šola Veno Pilon Ajdovščina, Gimnazija Šentvid Ljubljana and Gimnazija Murska Sobota. The competition is organized by Society of Mathematicians, Physicists, and Astronomers of Slovenia, in collaboration with astrophysicists from the University of Nova Gorica.

Last december almost 5000 primary and high school pupils participated in school competition in astronomy and the best 368 of them entered the national competition.
When participants finished with competition tests at noon on Saturday, national committee for astronomy competition met at the UNG's School of Sciences in Ajdovščina and under the leadership of competition secretary Andrej Guštin and the president of national committee for astronomy competition, Prof. Dr. Andreja Gomboc from UNG, evaluated their tests. Unofficial results where known in the evening, while final, official results will be announced at the end of the week.
Participants with best scores at the national competition will win gold Dominko's Awards and possibility to enter the St. Petersburg Astronomy Olympiad. The best participants from high schools will also get the chance to enter the team, which will represent Slovenia at the 10th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in India later this year.
