History

At the invitation of the International University Institute for European Studies, the Senate of Nova Gorica Polytechnic has reached a decision on 13 April 2004 that Nova Gorica Polytechnic will apply for the cofounding of the International University Institute for European Studies (IUIES) with a seat in Gorizia, Italy.

The International University Institute for European Studies operates in the form of an international university consortium, the founders of which are: University of Trieste, University of Udine, University of Klagenfurt, Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest, Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Comenius University in Bratislava, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, MGIMO University in Moscow, the Institute of International Sociology in Gorizia.

The main goals of the consortium are to promote international academic co-operation and create experts in the field of European sciences. The consortium provides study in three postgraduate programmes (the doctoral programme »Transborder Policies for the Daily Life«, and two master's programmes »European Policy Making« and »International Peace Operators«). The programmes are designed internationally and, in addition to regularly including lecturers from reputable foreign universities, also enable the training of postgraduate students abroad. The fields of study comprise knowledge gained from the process of European integration, relations within the European Union, the development of regionalism and cross-border co-operation. At the assembly of the cofounders of the IUIES consortium on 27 April 2004 the decision of making Nova Gorica Polytechnic an equal cofounder of the International University Institute for European Studies was accepted unanimously.

With the entry of Nova Gorica Polytechnic into the International University Institute for European Studies Slovene students are now also able to study under the above-mentioned programmes.
